James Douglas (J.D.) Wheeler, 77, of Lumberton, Texas, passed away April 22, 2026.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Haven of Rest Cemetery in Beaumont, Texas.
He was born on February 27, 1949, in Loeb to James Fredrick Wheeler and Willie Mae Wheeler. James served his community for over 10 years as a volunteer firefighter and cherished the time he spent coaching his daughters’ Little Dribblers basketball teams.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and pawpaw known for his sense of humor, his love of hunting and fishing, working in his yard, and for the care and protection he provided to his family.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, W.B. Wheeler and Thomas W. Wheeler; his sisters, Mary Lou Prichard and Ruth Ann Wheeler; and his infant son.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Debbie Wheeler; his daughters, Tonya Wheeler of Kountze, Denise Maddox of Beaumont, Kristina Stoneking and her husband David of Decatur, Katie Hancock and her husband Josh of Aledo; and granddaughters, Emma, Grace, and Avery Hancock.
