Uncle Albert was really my brother. I was raised along side him in my grandparent's home. Albert had three loves in his life. His loves were music, sports and his family. He used song titles in everyday vernacular. When he had to leave he said, "Good Night Irene", when the Cowboys lost a game he said, "Turn out the lights the party's over", Instead of arguing he said, "Just walk away Renee". He was always ready to pick up his guitar and sing a few tunes if you were ready to listen. His excitement came from his Astros and Cowboys. I took him to an Astros game several years ago, and he gave me a play by play of what I was seeing on the field telling me what the players were doing wrong. He was a student of the game. Most of all, he loved his family. On visits to Texas he would tell me the exploits and accomplishments of each of his children. He could not have been more proud of them all. Albert was a man of God. He worked all his life and thanked God for his many blessings. What I will miss most about Albert are his words of wisdom when I was in need. And, I will miss him calling me out of the blue to tell me a joke, then never hearing the punch line of the joke because he was laughing too hard to finish! Just to say that I will miss him seems like an obvious understatement. As long as I have lived he was a guiding light for me to follow. On so many levels, his passing leaves a big hole in my heart. Albert showed me that no matter who you are and what you have, you can make something of yourself by working hard. I am eternally grateful for having him in my life.
