Alfred Nelson died peacefully in his home in Nederland on February 7, 2012, surrounded by his family. Alfred proudly served as a radarman in the U. S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Dunlap in the Pacific for four years during World War II. He married his childhood sweetheart Elizabeth Fraser of Alta Loma, Texas and they were happily married for 66 years until her death in 2009. Alfred became a master welder and worked and retired from Texas Gulf Sulphur Company in Beaumont.
He is survived by his children, David Alan Nelson and his wife, Donna Sherman Nelson of Houston, Sharon Elaine Nelson of Arlington, Virginia, Bonnie Lynn Burroughs of Pt. Neches, and Alfred Ray Nelson of Nederland. He was the proud Grandfather of Brian David Nelson, Christopher Alan Nelson, Shane Lee Burroughs, and Bethany Lynn Burroughs, and the Great Grandfather of Taylor David Nelson, Zachary Brian Nelson and Abigail Hart Nelson.
At Alfred's request, the family held a private memorial service in his home.
