Alvie Jo Morgan

1930 ∼ 2018

Alvie Jo Morgan, affectionately known as Mrs. Jo, made her journey to her eternal home on June 7, 2018. She is preceded in death by her husband, E.G. Morgan; her brothers, Leon, Edgbert, Norris, and Nulen Hatton; sisters Margarite Duhon and Frances Phillips. She preceded her youngest brother, Jimmy Hatton, to their eternal home by 16 hours after her passing, joining her siblings. Jo Morgan leaves a legacy with her three children; Montie Morgan, and wife JoLynne, James Morgan, and wife Christina, Jo Beth Perkins, and husband Roy. She was Memaw to Charles Morgan and wife Jessica, Hanna Morgan Dennis and husband Torry, Natalie Morgan George, and husband Tim and Andi Perkins. She was able to enjoy great grand-children Abbie and Joanna Morgan; Will, Aubrey and Caleb Dennis; Mason George.

As the story goes, when E.G. Morgan began his ministry at Hillister Baptist Church he was introduced to Alvie Jo Hatton when he needed a pianist. They married and continued to serve the Lord throughout their entire ministry. Every church Bro. Bill served in, Mrs. Jo could be found on the organ or the piano after teaching the 4 & 5 year old children in Sunday School. Mrs. Jo always had the biggest smile on her face when she had a baby in her arms. She continued her ministry even at Calder Woods where she always said “God put me here to minister.” There she played the piano, always making sure the song was in the key most appropriate for the voice of the person leading the singing. In her final days she was loved and cared for by Sarah Ignacio and Beth May. She left this world to meet Jesus face to face and join her loved ones and we are sure she is playing the piano for God’s Heavenly Chorus.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Lynn Fontenot, chaplain with Calder Woods Retirement Village, officiating.

A graveside service will follow at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Woodville.

So sorry for your loss. She I know she will be greatly missed. Loved walking in to CW or attending the church service with my dad and always hearing her play. One day she was practicing and my oldest granddaughter was with me. Kaci walked up to the piano and stood by your mom and just watched and listened. I have a picture of it. So sweet.

My most vivid memories of Aunt Jo were of her and Uncle Bill when they lived in Jersey Village. Norris and Frances (my parents) would drive us out from southeast Houston all the way to Jersey Village. It was like going out of town! Once we were there, Aunt Jo would always greet us with a hug and make us feel so welcome. She had a wonderful laugh and a beautiful smile! Her piano playing and singing with Monte, Jo Beth and James Keith was truly the highlight of every visit. Such good memories! She was a great woman of God and I know she was a blessing to her family and leaves a wonderful legacy! My prayers and love to the family. Marvin Hatton
