Anna Belle Akins

There will be a gathering of friends and family for Anna Belle Atkins, 91, of Beaumont, on Sunday, February 8, 2009 between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home. Interment will follow on Tuesday in Canton, TX.

Mrs. Atkins was born, December 6, 1917 in Ben Wheeler, TX to William Carey and Amanda Beatrice James and passed away on February 5, 2009, in Beaumont, TX.

She worked for many years at Entergy and enjoyed the beach. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Atkins; parents, William Carey and Amanda James; brothers, William Henry James and Malvin Edward James; niece, Patsy Gillentine, and nephew, Lyonel James. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Myrna James, nephew, Kenneth James, and niece, Julianne Pell.

Annie was a sweet and gentle woman. She worked with my father, Howard Gale, at Gulf States for many years. She and Red were friends of our family and I would visit her at the nursing home everytime I went to visit my mother, Ruth Werner. ANNA BELLE WAS A RESIDENT WHERE I AM EMPLOYED. I CALLED HER MY BABY BECAUSE AS WE ALL KNOW THAT OLD SAYING ONCE GROWN TWICE A CHILD AND ANNA BELLE WAS TRULY MY BABY.
