Annie Laura Lakey

Funeral services for Annie Laura Lakey, 91, of Vidor, will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 11, 2010, in the Claybar Kelley-Watkins Chapel with burial at 5:00 p.m. in the Brookeland Cemetery in Brookeland, TX. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lakey passed away Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Village Creek Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Lumberton, TX. She was born February 6, 1919 in Sour Lake, TX to D.C. Yancey, Sr. and Maggie Horn Yancey. She was a member of Maplecrest Baptist Church in Vidor where she taught Sunday School for many years.

Annie Lakey was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Thomas Floyd Lakey; sister, Marguerite Turner, and brothers, D.C. Yancey, Jr., R.E. Yancey, Clyde Yancey, and Ernest Yancey. She is survived by daughter, Patricia James and husband, Gary of Beaumont; son Bryan F. Lakey and wife, Jean of Lumberton; grandchildren, Wendy Ashworth and husband, Jimmy of Clear Lake, TX, Rory D. James and wife, Tanya of Spring, TX, Melanie Duell and husband, Derrick of Arlington, TN, Aaron Lakey and wife, Bonnie of Keller, TX; ten great-grandchildren; brother Joe Yancey of Port Neches, TX, and several nieces and nephews.

To all of Mrs. Lakey's family: Mrs. Lakey was my Sunday School teacher 40 years ago, in the Junior High class at Maplecrest.
