Artie “Cowboy” Green, 100, of Silsbee, passed away on May 1, 2020, in Silsbee

A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2020, Haven of Rest Cemetery in Beaumont. Officiating will be Brother Jim Adkins of the Assembly of God Church in Silsbee.

Born in Promise City, Iowa on April 6, 1920, he was the son of Artie Oakland Green and Lela Cherry Green. Artie was a longtime minister and teacher in Iowa. He was a kind man who never met a stranger. His life experience led him to be an excellent councilor, a good listener, and it brought him joy to use the Lord to help others. He proudly served his country as a Sargent in the Army Air Force during WWII, where he served in England and was a recipient of the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Battle Star, the Army of Occupation Medal, Germany, and the Good Conduct Medal. Artie was an old time cowboy, and took a special interest in raising Quarter Horses. Above all though, he loved his family. He was a great father, and loved all his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, son, and parents.

Artie is survived by his daughters, Elisabeth Roark & husband Mickey of Vidor, TX and Ann Rooks & husband Scott of Davenport, IA; as well as 8 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren

I have many fond memories of Mr. Green. We share the love for horses and would spend hours talking about the great quarter horse breed. At 99 he could recall the names of all my horses as well as his own when my sister and I would visit him. He loved talking about building the Conestoga wagon with my dad, and setting out for the Dogwood Festival. He had the pictures still hanging with his ropes. Artie aka Los Verdes I know you are resting high on that mountain with our Lord and Savior. Rebecca Cloud Valencia

I am sorry for your loss. I really enjoyed taking care of yall father at Spanish Trail. He would always tell me that I am a will horse, but you would have to understand why he would connect two different things together. He was a true cowboy and I am going to miss him. I love yall and loved him dearly.

To the Green Family, I am so sorry for your loss. You have been so blessed to have him for so many years. I so enjoyed visiting with him when I would go to Spanish Trails. His mind was sharp as a tack. We reminisced about years before when he would do parades with my Father. He showed me pictures he still had in his room. I still have Christmas letters I found in my Mothers things after she passed away couple of years ago. I am sad that we cannot pay our respects in person, but he is in heaven with our Blessed Savior & Mrs. Green. God Bless.
