Bettie Stringer

Bettie Stringer

Bettie M. Stringer, 86, went home to her Lord, Tuesday afternoon, June 5, 2012. She was born in Manning, Texas on August 2, 1925 to Henry and Lula Marshall. Bettie graduated from South Park High School in 1942. She was married to William P. Stringer, May 2, 2943 in San Diego, California. They were married for 58 years. She graduated from Lamar University in 1984 with a degree in studio art.

Bettie retired from Pietzsch Elementary where she served as the secretary. She attended Ridgewood Church of Christ and was a docent at the McFaddin Ward Home, a member of the Woman's Club, and Art Museum. She shared many of her tea cake cookies and banana muffins. Her paintings are hanging in many homes and offices. Water color became her favorite medium. If the color rose or pink were not on an item, it probably was debated on if it should come into the house.

One of her joys was to be at the creek house entertaining friends or family. Her home was always open for wedding or baby showers, as well as games of bridge or 42.

Mrs. Stringer is survived by her daughter, Susan Riles and her husband, Jay, her son, Dr. Scott Stringer and his wife, Michelle, of Ridgeland, MS. She has four grandchildren, Christ Riley and his wife, Rachel, of Abilene, Cortney Bartee and her husband, Brandon, from Dallas, Lindsey Stringer and Steve Stringer both of Austin. She has two great-grandchildren, Jackson Riley and Alice Anne Riley of Abilene.

She is survived by three brothers Bobby Marshall and his wife, Sammy, John Marshall and his wife, Jacquelyn, Dr. Don Marshall and his wife, Ann, and one sister, Peggy Marshall.

We want to thank those at Calder Woods and Professional Health Care Hospice that showed her much love and care throughout this last year. As well as the ladies and neighbors that assisted her in so many different ways. Donations to the Alzheimer's Association would be greatly appreciated.

Condolences

I recall Betty as a dear friend and colleague for the 8+ years I taught PE at Pietzsch from 1987 onward. We shared many of the same interests, including art. I was fortunate enough to have her give me one of her pencil sketches which I cherish and proudly##imported-begin##Bill Tetley##imported-end##

Suzan, Scott, and Family, Your mother was such a dear friend and co-worker. We had many good times at Giles and Pietzch, and she was always there when help was needed. We also enjoyed knowing your dad and remember the games of 42 we all shared.##imported-begin##Gay and Ruth McKinley##imported-end##
