Betty Shoemaker

Betty Shoemaker, 76, of Orange, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Harbor Hospital in Orange.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange, with Pastor Kirk Ellender, officiating.

Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Born on May 27, 1934, in Heidelberg, Germany, she was the daughter of Signe and Richard Schwabe.

Mrs. Shoemaker was a licensed vocational nurse and had worked at Orange Memorial Hospital, Doctor's Hospital in Groves and Medical and Surgical Hospital in Beaumont.

She had been a Red Cross swimming instructor at D.E.R.A., treasurer for DuPont Sabine River Works Retiree's and was of the Presbyterian faith.

Mrs. Shoemaker loved playing her piano, was an avid wildlife enthusiast and she loved her kittens. She enjoyed floral arranging, scuba diving and all types of adventure and travel.

Preceded in death by her husband, Delmar Shoemaker, Mrs. Shoemaker is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Clarence "D.D." Stephenson of Orange; sons, Ricky Shoemaker of Orange and Roger Shoemaker of California.

Also surviving are her grandchildren, Casey Stephenson and his wife, Brittany, Scott Stephenson and Ricci Michelle Shoemaker; sister, Signe Elizabeth Gehrmann of Austria; and former daughter-in-law, Darlene Shoemaker of Mauriceville.

Pallbearers will be Casey Stephenson, Scott Stephenson, Leo Begnaud, Clyde Caughlin, Michael Dorsey, Justin Choate.
