Carl H. Sanders, Sr.

Carl H. Sanders, Sr., 85, of Bridge City, passed away, Friday, January 4, 2008 in Port Arthur.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Second Baptist Church in Bridge City. Officiating will be Reverend Ed Rawls of Silver Oaks Baptist Church in Mauriceville.

Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-9:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 8, at the Second Baptist Chruch.

Carl was born July 4, 1922 in Allentown, Texas to Hiram Bell and Millie Modisette Sanders. Carl worked as a maintenance supervisor at Texaco, retiring after 37 years and is a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served in WWII. He was a charter member and deacon of Silver Oaks Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Bridge City. Carl loved and supported the Bridge City Cardinals and also loved working in his garden.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hiram Bell and Millie Modisette Sanders, brother, Don O. Sanders, and son, Carl H. Sanders, Jr..

Carl is survived by his wife, Winona Sanders, sons, Stephen Sanders and wife Melinda of Bridge City, Malcom Sanders and wife Tamaiba, of Houston, Wenden Sanders also of Houston, and six grandchildren, Danielle Skinner, Jill Carpenter, Joshua Sanders, Aston Aune, Amy Sanders, and Shonna Hunt.

Also surviving him are five great-grandchildren, four sisters; Louise Burrous, Loyce Finley, Jewell Kirkland, Gaynell Thompson and two brothers, Jim Sanders, and Jake Sanders.

Serving as pallbearers will be nephews, Jim Sanders, Donny Sanders, David LaBay, Danny LaBay, Dean Labay, Devin LaBay, Darren LaBay, and Vance Hardy.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Stanley McKee, Craig Hughes, Roy Roberts, Jimmy Welch, Prentice Scarber, and John Hendricks.
