Carmen F. Huckabay

Carmen F. Huckabay, 49, a lifelong resident of Orange, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2007 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday October 4, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Reverend Joseph P. Daleo will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Deacon Melvin Payne.

Mrs. Huckabay was born April 22, 1958 in Orange to Martin Maldonado Orta and Carmen Fernandez Rodriguez.

She was a 1976 graduate of Lutcher Stark High School and had worked at Orange Memorial Hospital Radiology Department for 17 years. Mrs. Huckabay was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and enjoyed garage sales, working in her yard and most of all she loved her husband and family.

She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin M. and Carmen F. Orta; her infant son, Ryan Heath Kelley; brother, Pete F. Orta and her grandparents.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Leslie Huckabay of Orange; daughter, April Huckabay of Houston and son, Keith Huckabay and life partner, Brian Hampton, both of Houston. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosita Reid, Alicia and Elvin Blanchard, Beatrice and Albert Chesson and Mary Grimes; brothers and sisters-in-law, Martin F. Orta, Felix F. and Cheryl Orta, Raul F. and Catarina Orta, Alejandro F. and Edith Orta and Bobby F. and Mary Orta; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews; her family in Cerralvo, N.L., Mexico and her beloved pets, Teddy, Lady and Carlie.

Serving as pallbearers will be her nephews, Neil Ayers, Benjamin F. Orta, Bobby F. Orta, Jr., Michael A. Chesson, Sean Orta, Steven Orta, Greg Orta, Michael Alan Orta, Jimmy J. Grimes, Jr. and James M. Grimes.
