Charles (Charlie) Mack Hines of Beaumont, Texas, died on Sunday, December 21, at the age of 87. He was born on October 5, 1938, in Marquez, Texas (Leon County), to Mary Margaret and Oral H. Hines. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Roger Ray Hines. He is survived by his nephews, Ricky Hines, and Ronnie Hines, as well as numerous first, second, and third cousins.
At a young age, Charlie enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served from 1956 to 1958. He then enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from 1958 to 1962. He later joined the Merchant Marine, serving from 1963 to 1995. During his service, Charlie earned several commendations for his dedication and professionalism. He enjoyed traveling and often shared stories about the different ports he visited. He retired in 1995 and spent his remaining years in Beaumont. He remained close to his aunt Syble and his first cousins throughout his life.
Charlie was a fan of classic country music but appreciated all genres. He was an avid reader and was knowledgeable about world events and facts. He was known for his kindness, quick wit, and straightforward nature. His character and humor will be missed by all who knew him.
