Charles Michael Hogden

1980 ∼ 2015

Charles Michael Hogden, 35, of Beaumont, passed away Friday, November 13, 2015 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Charles was born in Orange, Texas, on March 31, 1980. His parents are his mother, Debra French Ball, step-father, Don Ball, Jr., his father, Marc Charles Hogden, and step-mother, Betty Hogden. Charles spent most of his life in East Texas with a few years in Dallas and Wichita Falls, Texas. During his adult years, he lived in Orange and Beaumont. He was a member of the United Methodist Church wherever he lived, but retained close ties to Calvary Baptist Church of Orange, his grandmother’s church.

Charles enjoyed outdoor recreation like riding four-wheelers, boating, mudding, hunting and fishing, was a decent cook, and could repair just about anything. At the yearly family Christmas party, he enjoyed playing the part of Santa. Most of his life’s work was to repair and detail vehicles and provide expert lawn care. Charles was a kind and generous person who loved to help people and to see the finished product of a job well-done.

Charles was preceded in death by grandparents, Caleb French, and Dolly and Roy Q. Hogden, Sr.

In addition to his parents, Charles is survived by his sister, Tracy Lynn Hogden; his grandmother, Bette French; step-grandparents, Betty and Don Ball, Sr. and Ann and Leon Lyons; step-siblings, Lesa Veitch, Charles (Bubba) Maccabee, Daniel Ball, Megan Ball Neel, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. Charles had no children of his own, but was called, “Pawpaw,” by his girlfriend, Carol Miller’s grandchildren, who loved being around him. Her daughter Crystal Miller and her son, Michael Taylor called him their step-dad.

Visitation will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, November 21 at Calvary Baptist Church, 2402 Western Ave. in Orange. The service will be at 2 PM in the same location. Ashes will be interred at the Harris family cemetery in Orange.

The service will have two honorary pallbearers, Keith Hatton and Michael Taylor

Charles was one of the loving and genuinely sweet people that I ever had the pleasure of knowing. He always called me "aunt marcie" even though I wasn't biologically his aunt, he was just a very respectful person like that. He loved my sister carol and her kids and grandkids and made them his own family. He will be forever loved and missed!! Rest in peace hun, fly high with the angels!! Love you forever!!

Charles was a one of a kind. He was a great person and a great friend. I don't think he ever knew what he meant to me. But he was always there for me anytime I needed him. No matter how long we went without speaking or seeing each other, all I had to do was call on him and he would be there no matter what. To me he was family, I also not only gained a friend when we met but I gained his family who I think of as family. You will always have a place in my heart Charles! Love, Andrea
