Charles Edward Westbrook

1942 ∼ 2017

Charles Edward Westbrook was born September 16, 1942 in Village Mills, TX and passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017 in Beaumont where he was a long time resident with wife and family.

Chuck, as he was fondly known to those close, was in the Navy and worked for Zapata offshore oil drilling, with both bringing him to faraway lands. A loving father of one son and three girls, and a fun and outgoing grandfather of 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, Charles always had a bearhug for the kids and a quip or two for the road...or perhaps the “freeway.”

He is preceded in death by his father and mother Escar and Bertha Westbrook; his son, Donny Westbrook; two grandsons and brothers, Christopher and Joshua Jones.

Charles is survived by his wife Donna Westbrook and brother Tom Westbrook; his three daughter’s Charlotte Westbrook, Tammy Jones, Candy and husband Leonard Guidry.

He leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Dewayne Guidry, Greg Guidry, Holly Westbrook, Amber Winchester, Matt Westbrook, Karen Porter, Jon Jones, Nikki Jones, Kacy Jones and Krista Porter; and 12 great grandchildren: Jordyn Fowler, Nate Winchester, Emma Winchester, Haydon Jones, Tristan Jones, Emalie Jones, Ryder McFarland, Braxton Jones, Jacob Guidry, Hailey Guidry, Caleb Guidry and Corey Guidry.

With a western novel close by, like his mother and son, or a John Wayne movie on the ever increasing sized Television screens, Charles will always be remembered with love and fond memories.

Condolences

family: I started working on the "family tree" and would like help wherever and whenever possible. I need pictures and more names placed. Family with black lines are those who have passed. you can add step, divorced and even half siblings. It's helping me and if it helps anyone else feel free.

The legend of the Paw Paw Paw Paws are made from fun stuff like tall tales. From the time we first walk to those strides down the aisle, Paw Paws are made from Superman smiles. Ours tried so hard to catch those damn “Ants in our pants” to no avail, and gave the best bear hugs way better than any Winnie or care bear. He was the best bear of all. Yet, let’s not forget that Paw Paws are not just ours alone, We share him with many in our family here at home. From daddy to hubby, to brother and friend, Paw Paw’s name was beyond known to the end. You should Never tell Paw Paw your board because his response was always “go play on the freeway,” and watch your next move… (on that note, how many had to be stopped from going to the end of the driveway?) A kiss on his beard or a peck on the bald head, Paw Paws are made for loving everyone knows. Period! So, don’t shed those tears, nor blow your nose, Just remember the great man who once got your toes. Paw Paw, Dad, Chuck, Hubby, Brother, Love, Uncle, Family, and Friend… He’s now surrounded by those who've gone before him hanging out in Lazy Boys with God, Family, and piles of Louis L'amour by the shore, with a cold beer in hand. So, now here we are, those who remain, and our job is to remember as a family, be it by blood or pulled in, with love, hope and ties we never unravel but to stay true and strong and support one another. So, Paw Paws are made of legendary stuff, that’s right, and Charles Westbrook was no different at 7 ½ feet tall and could lift a Simi. He could fly the world in a day while filming a movie in Santa Fe. Our Paw Paw is the tallest of tall tales. Yet, to tell you the truth, he never could get those ants out of any pants...hmm, maybe it was all made up. -Holly Westbrook

So, I think the best thing about paw paw was his sense of humor. I loved it when he laughed. I wrote a poem that I believe best descibes him and will read it Sat. afterward I will post it here for all to see. I love you paw paw.
