Dempsey E. Brister, Sr.

Dempsey E. Brister, Sr., 72, of Orange died Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at his home.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange with Reverend Harold Nazworth and Reverend Bill Burch, officiating. Burial will follow Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery in West Orange.

Visitation will be from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Born in Orange on July 24, 1938, Dempsey was the son of Ivy and Alma Francis Williamson Brister. He retired as an electrician from Mundy Construction and worked for 37 years at Levingston Shipbuilding. Dempsey was a licensed Baptist Minister and authored a biblical study entitled ?Dispensational Lines.? He was a member of Hartburg Baptist Church, and IBEW.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, S.A. Brister and Billy Brister, and nephew, Justin Brister.

Dempsey is survived his wife of 54 years, Shirley Brister of Orange; sons, Dempsey ?Eddie? Brister, Jr. and his wife, Tari of Spokane, Washington, and Mike Brister and his wife, Amy of Orange.

He is also survived by his brothers, Edgar Brister of Orange, Clinton Brister of Orange, and Paul Brister of Kirbyville; grandson, Colby Brister of Spokane, Washington; and granddaughters, Montana Brister of Spokane, Washington, Meghan Brister of Orange and Brook Brister of Orange.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Sammy Paul Brister, Warren Brister, Don Brister, Billy Brister, Colby Brister and Dewey Woods.

I am so sorry for your loss, I have so very many beautiful memories of Uncle Dempsey from childhood at Echo Baptist church.
