Derrell Smith

Derrell Smith, 79, of Orange, died Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Promise Hospital.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at MacArthur Heights Baptist Church. Officiating will be Reverend Jay Thomas.

Burial will follow at Autumn Oaks Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Derrell was born on July 5, 1928, in San Augustine Co., TX. He was the son of Finnis and Rosie Boyett Smith. Mr. Smith was a very active member of MacArthur Heights Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lena Smith; and mother and stepfather, Rosie & Newton Murphy.

Survivors include his wife, Mae Smith; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Comeaux and Mike, Sharon Roberson and Robert; stepson, Dennis Cole all of Orange; grandchildren, Michael Comeaux and wife Keely of Red Oak, TX and Paul David McCoppin, Jr. of Orange; great-grandchildren, Kayla Comeaux, Kally Comeaux, and Chelsie Humphrey; and Step granddaughters Sara Beth Cole, and Betty Jo Cole.

Serving as pallbearers are Tom Hare, Kenny Peveto, Leroy Matlock, Paul David McCoppin, Jr., Michael Comeaux, Higinio "Tony" Gonzalez, Robert Roberson, and Mike Comeaux.

Honorary pallbearers are the Men's Sunday school class at MacArthur Heights Baptist Church and Glyn Haley.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the building and grounds fund at MacArthur Heights Baptist Church.
