Doris Herrington, 81, of Orange, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, in Houston.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 2, 2008, at North Orange Baptist Church, with Reverend Scott McIntosh, pastor, and Reverend Larry Lormand, associate pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow at Niblett's Bluff Cemetery in Vinton, Louisiana, with her great nephews serving as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2008, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Mrs. Herrington was born February 1, 1927, in Fisher, Louisiana, the daughter of Adolphus David and Ola Savell Adams.

A licensed cosmetologist, she was an instructor of cosmetology for 30 years, 15 of those years at Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School.

She was a 32 year volunteer at The Oaks Nursing Home in Orange, where she would often bring her students and friends to wash, cut and style the hair of the residents. She had a special place in her heart for the elderly and was always concerned about them.

Mrs. Herrington was a faithful member of North Orange Baptist Church for 50 years and a longtime Sunday School teacher.

She is survived by her husband, John H. Herrington of Orange; son, Charles P. Herrington and his wife, Karen, of Fort Worth; daughter, Evita Herrington Kemmer and her husband, Scott, of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, Dusty Kemmer and his wife, Kristi, Anne Marie Herrington; great grandchildren, Brittany, Dylan and Lauren Kemmer; sister, Mattie Adams McCord of Port Arthur; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dylan Kemmer, Jerome Lester, Roger Dale Rains, Greg Gilcrese, Danny Freed, Eddie Waite and Brandon Swarers.

I have wonderful memories of my time in Mrs. Herrington's Cos. class at LCM. She was a wonderful teacher doing a hard job. Out of all the memories of high school, my time in Mrs. Herrington's class stands out above the rest. She was a wonderful and patient teacher who not only taught us to do hair, but allowed us to be individuals and made us believe in ourselves.
