Obituary

DOROTHY “DOT” EARLINE TEUTSCH

Dot was born on May 7,1930 in Line Prairie, Mississippi to T. C. and Mamie Allen. The youngest of eight children, Dot grew up during the Great Depression. A time when money was extremely hard to come by. For this reason, school let out at noon so she and the other kids could go in the field and pick cotton.

As a teenager Dot wanted to become a nurse, but there was no money to pay for nurses training. Miraculously, God intervened and graciously provided an unknown benefactor. This generous man paid all expenses so she and several girls could attend Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, in Jackson. This allowed Dot to achieve her dream of becoming a registered nurse.

While in Jackson, she and a friend felt compelled to move to San Antonio, Texas to help with a children’s mission. After relocating to San Antonio, Dot joined First Baptist Church where she met her future husband, James Teutsch. They married in 1955 and had their first and only child Lori in 1960.

After a few years in Louisiana the family moved to Beaumont, Texas. At that point Dot decided to retire from nursing and become a full-time mother. As a member of First Baptist Beaumont, she taught Sunday School, helped with GAs, and she played the piano in various classes. During these years, Dot enjoyed hosting dinner parties, luncheons and after church gatherings in her home. She was a gracious hostess and a wonderful cook. She was also known to experiment with new and unusual desserts which were her favorite food!

Besides social gatherings, classical music, Siamese cats and of course family, Dot most loved the Word of God. At First Baptist, she was able to expand her Biblical knowledge thanks to Dr. Chris Moody’s expository teaching. An avid reader, Dot’s favorite selection in later years was Dr. Louis Sperry Chafer’s eight volumes of “Systematic Theology”. She also read his book “Grace” many times. Perhaps that is apropos as Dot received an incredible amount of grace from the Lord over her lifetime. When things seemed impossible, God stepped in and showed His amazing grace.

Dot is survived by her daughter Lori Teutsch, niece Clara Malak, great-niece Laura (Steve) Drake, and great great nieces Brittany (Hayden) Besetzny, Sarah (William) Dierksheide, and Rachel (Jacob) Bruener, nieces Carol (Barry) Gates, Diane (Wallace) Berry, Beverly (Glenn) Garcia, Cindy (Doug) Reece, Louann Teutsch, cousins Brenda Hamblin, Stephanie Hamblin, Alexander Hamblin and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held in honor of Dot on Friday, December 5, 2025 at 9:00 AM, followed by a Funeral service at 10:00 AM, both to be held at LaBrie Claybar Funeral Home in Beaumont, TX.
