Funeral services for Edward G. ?Punk? Thornal, 88, of Austin, will be held Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Bevil Oaks. Interment will follow at Forest lawn Memorial Park.

A gathering of family and friends will be Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home.

?Punk? was born October 28, 1922 in Silsbee, Texas and passed away, April 6, 2011 in Austin. A longtime resident of Beaumont, he was a retired Chief Petty Officer with the U.S. Navy having served in WWII and Korea. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bevil Oaks and an avid woodworker.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Hilry and Debbie Thornal of Austin; daughters, Glenda and Linda Thornal of Lewisville; grandchildren, Kris Thornal of Austin and Hilaire Thornal of Houston; and step-granddaughter, Alicia Marrs and husband, Brandon and their son, Ben of Austin.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sudie Thornal and his parents, Ruben E. and Minnie L Harrell Thornal.

Growing up it was always so much fun to go visit Punk and Sudie. In later years, getting together at the family reunions was always a great time. Punk had great stories to tell and Mike really enjoyed visiting with him. We are sorry we can't be there##imported-begin##Sandra Owen West & Mike Williams##imported-end##

Mr Punk was one of my favorite people of all times. He was always sitting in his pew at church and attended Sunday School faithfully. He and Sudie were a pleasure to visit and I enjoyed discussing the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Astros with him. I kn##imported-begin##Linda Thomas##imported-end##

What a blessing to have known Punk. We always loved seeing Punk and Sudie at church. Punk was a blessing to everyone...and he always had a peppermint for anyone!
