Elden Lee Crosby

1939 ∼ 2023

Elden Lee Crosby, 84, of Lumberton, Texas passed away on December 9, 2023, at his home in Lumberton, Texas

A Celebration of his life will be held on January 11, 2024, from 5:30pm-7:30pm at the Book Nook Inn in

Lumberton.

Cremation has already taken place and his ashes will be spread in his home state of Colorado in the Rocky Mountains.

Elden was born in Karval, Colorado on May 15, 1939, and was the son of Charles and Fern Crosby who preceded him in death. After high school he attended business school in Denver completing a course of

training in accounting. He then joined the US Marine Corps serving 8 years with the last year being in Japan. Elden was always proud of the fact that he climbed Mt Fuji while there.

After serving in the military, he eventually became employed for the US Postal Service and retired after 30 plus years. He served the last 23 years as Postmaster in Mesa, Colorado. Since Mesa was such a small town, there was no mail delivery and people had to pick up their mail at the post office. Elden was known for his smile, his jokes, and being the town counselor. People often confided things to him which he never revealed unless it was about my daughter. Most of it was gossip. Elden was a dedicated postmaster and did many things to help the community. They are too numerous to list. He was a member of the American Legion and served as an Honor Guard many times for deceased members and put flags on the graves of veterans at the local cemetery on Memorial and Veterans' Days. Elden became a Christian late in life being baptized in October of 2013. Because of his health he became unable to attend his church which he greatly missed.

Elden was a gunsmith and enjoyed repairing guns and loading shells for hunting when he was in better health.

Elden was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Kevin Spanicek of Grand Junction, and a Grandson,

Drew Holmberg of Kentucky. He is survived by his wife of 37 yrs, Carol Crosby of Lumberton, a

daughter, Noma Lee Brandon of Grand Junction, a Step-son, Brent LaForge (Tammy) of Beaumont,

Texas, and a Step-Daughter, Stacie Hearne(David) of Lumberton, a sister, Peg Mattson(Greg Berg) of

Denver, Ron Crosby(Donna) of Broomfield, Co , 5 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren.

All who knew Elden or his family are invited to his Celebration which will be very casual as Elden didn't

want anything to mark his passing. EIden was a great man and all who knew him loved him.

Our thoughts are with you, Carol, as you face the challenges ahead! Want to render our thankfulness for having had the opportunity to get acquainted, even in later years. We value Elden’s testimony very much, a true friend and a brother in Christ, one of God’s children! His Spirit and faithfulness never wavered as he became unable, a faithful finish. Please know we care, . Verby & Jody Van Houten, Groves, Tx.
