Erla Ruth Rumsey

Erla Ruth Rumsey, 88, of West Orange, died Saturday, February 13, 2010, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend David Millner with Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Autumn Oaks Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Ruth was born on April 9, 1921, in Buna, Texas. She was the daughter of Annie Belle Harris Cooper and John Adnell Cooper.

Ruth was self-employed as a seamstress. She was a member of the "Golden Girls" Sunday School Class. She loved to sew and spend time in her garden.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, John and Annie Cooper; husband, Calvin Lee "Fritz" Rumsey; two sons, David L. Rumsey, and Larry Murl Rumsey; grandson, David L. Rumsey, Jr.; and sister, Nina McMillian.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gwen and Charles Atkinson; of Orange, Texas; sons and daughters-in-law, Lyndon and Kathe Rumsey of Olympia, Washington, and John and Margaret Rumsey of St. Augustine Park, Texas; daughters-in-law, Rose Rumsey, Ester Rumsey, and Gloria Glover; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Sanders; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Honoring her by serving as pallbearers will be her great grandsons, Wade Salazar, Marcus Salazar, Nicholas Salazar, Dillon Rumsey, Rawdon Saulsbury, Calvin Medley, Jordan Quarles, and Cheyenne Rumsey.

There is nor was there anyone as special as Mam-Maw. I was blessed to be married into this wonderful family, and I've learned over the years what family truly means.
