Ethel Renfroe Rogers

Ethel Rogers was born in Martinsville, Texas on June 4, 1914 and passed away October 31, 2011 in Beaumont, Texas. Graveside services will be held Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Douglass Cemetery, Douglass, Texas. Blessed with 97 extraordinary years of life, in death she is reunited with her loving husband, John Edgar Rogers. Before his passing, he and Ethel celebrated 64 years of marriage December 25, 1937 to February 6, 2002.

Ethel was a homemaker and cared for their five children, while working part-time in sales at Beall?s Department store, preparing tax returns, and later in life becoming a real estate broker. Known for her wonderful coconut pies, Ethel, fondly called Grannie by her grand and great-grandchildren, never let a holiday pass without baking one of her famous pies before her health declined. She enjoyed baking, playing bridge, dominoes, gardening, and visiting her children/family. While retired in Jasper, farming the acre garden became a passion and she with J.E. and son, Eddie, enjoyed sharing the fruits of their labor with family and friends.

A resident of Beaumont for the past 9 years, Ethel was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Beaumont. She is survived by two sons, Eddie Rogers, Sr. of League City, Aubrey Rogers and wife, Doris of Warren; three daughters, Patricia Brasher of Jasper, Linda Brammer and husband, Jim, of Beaumont, and Marilyn Morrell and husband, Rocco, of Port Neches; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Renfroe; and a host of extended family.

As a family, we would like to thank caregiver, Denise Durham, for her tireless love and dedication; we appreciate so much Professional Hospice Care for their guidance and help, as well as Christopher Bell, DO.

Friends who wish may direct memorials to Douglass Cemetery Assn, c/o Van Little, 13325 W. State Hwy 21, Douglass, TX 75943 or a charity of their choice.
