Floyd Eugene Bailey

GySgt. Floyd Bailey, USMC Ret. passed away February 22, 2012. Floyd was born Oct. 29, 1942 in Kansas City, KS and grew up in Independence, MO in the Englewood neighborhood. He attended Bristol Elementary School and graduated from Van Horn High School with the class of 1960. During this time Floyd earned his Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow and Wood Badge.

Floyd did his basic training in 1961 for the Marine Corp in at MCRD in San Diego, CA. Following are some of his accomplishments and assignments during his 21 years in the Marine Corp: FDC OP Chief, 8" SP Artillery, Radio Chief, MCRESS, CCAX, NATO-Norway, Desert Shield/Storm, MWSS-471 NAS Dallas, TX.

After his enlistment Floyd worked for Mobile 2-Way, Comet Industries contract for KCS, ARCO and NGPL.

Floyd's family would like to thank Comet KCMO & Shreveport, LA, KCS KCMO the Marine Corp League, the Mayo Clinic, Sheridan Thornel – USMC Widow, Jon's sisters and family in Indiana and Oregon , The Southeast Texas Veterans Service Group. Also, their numerous family and friends.

Floyd and Jon married in 1964 at Camp Lejeune, NC where she was also serving in the Marines. He said it was "love at first sight" because he thought she had "potential"! Feb 14th, Valentine's Day.

Surviving Floyd are his granddaughter, Arabella, Sugar; his wife of 48 years, Jon; his daughter, Kathleen and sons, Matt and Danny.

A Memorial service is scheduled for March 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.1400 at the Golden Triangle Veterans Memorial Park, 8100 Gulfway located at the base of the Veterans Bridge on Hwy. 87 in Port Arthur, TX where Floyd will receive full military honors. Floyd, always a Marine, is now guarding Heaven's Gate.

I WAS GLAD I GOT TO SEE EUGENE AND CLEATA AT ROGERS HOUSE. THEY WERE A GOOD PART OF MY GROWING UP YEARS. I REMEBER THE DAY EUGENE CAME TO LIVE WITH HIS DAD RALPH. EUGENE AND MY BROTHER ROGER SOON BECAME FRIENDS. FROM THEN ON THAT CUTE AND CURLY HEADED ##imported-begin##NOLA##imported-end##

Eugene, We had some good times growing up together. All the neighbors will remember us runing around, having a good time, getting into trouble, sometimes Ha Ha!. Floyd, I am glad we refreshened our memories at the 50th Reunion, and am saddened you had to leave us so soon after.
