George Mullins

George Belton Mullins, Jr. of Bridge City passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2012, in Beaumont Texas. George was universally known as "Moon", a childhood nickname that remained with him throughout his 87 years.

Moon graduated from Pell City High School in Pell City, Alabama, May of 1941, and then joined the Marine Corp and served in WWII. After the war he returned to Pell City, and married his high school sweetheart, Jeanne Nelson, on August 10, 1947. Moon and Jeanne were married for 64 years and raised 4 children. He was a loving husband, a rock for his children and an inspiration to his grandchildren.

Moon worked for DuPont for 30 years at various locations in the United States and retired in 1982. Moon was a member of the Lamon Chapel Masonic Lodge No. 723 F. & A. M. of the Grand Lodge of Alabama, and received his 50 year certificate of membership on November 18, 2003.

Moon was preceded in death by his son Dennis and parents George and Louise Mullins. He is survived by his wife Jeanne and children Maureen Croley of Beaumont, George B. Bubba Mullins, III and wife, Kay Mullins of Big Canoe, Georgia, and Melissa Phillips and husband, Johnny Phillips of Austin. Grandchildren: Jason Croley and wife Kathleen of Houston, Collin Croley and wife Alicia of Houston, Roger Croley and fiancée, Rosa Torres of Beaumont, Amanda Vail and husband Mark of Atlanta, Georgia, Meagan Mullins of Charlotte, North Carolina, Lauren Ranson and husband Aaron of Fairfax, Virginia, and Ashley Mullins of Atlanta, Georgia. Three great-grandchildren: Simon Michael Vail of Atlanta, Georgia, Clayton Winfield Croley of Houston and Miley Pousson of Beaumont.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Kong, Dr. Chow and Dr. Talukdar and staff of the Cancer Research Center of Southeast Texas and to the staff and caregivers at Harbor Hospice House of Beaumont for their concern and care of Moon during his illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 23, 2012, in the chapel of Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont, Texas. A reception will follow the service in the Family Center at Claybar.
