Gird M. Malone

Gird M. Malone, 86, of Orange, Texas was called home on Tuesday May 11, 2010, surrounded by his loving wife and eight children.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2010, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Officiating will be Reverends Marv Howland and Harold Perkins. Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery with full military service.

Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Thursday, at Claybar funeral home.

Born in Haynes, Arkansas on January 26, 1924, Gird was the son of Edna Tyler and William Edward Malone. Gird was a sergeant in the Army Air Force and was stationed in Europe and flew missions over Germany as a tail gunner on a B-17. He was a life member of both the VFW and American Legion. He was post commander 70-71, district commander 75-76, and post quartermaster 74-95. He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his brothers and sisters.

Grid is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margaret Malone; son, Dwayne Knox and wife Fay of Deer, Arkansas; daughter, Linda Guillory and husband Roy of Deweyville; son, Brandon Knox and wife Carrie of Red Rock; daughter, Wanda Ragsdale and husband Jimmy of Nacogdoches; son, John David Knox, Jr. and wife Sally of Eagle Pass; son, Phillip Knox and wife Michele of Orange; daughter, Hilda Bromley and husband Gary of Groves; and daughter, Dana Jordan and husband Jay of Orangefield.

He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 nieces; and 1 nephew.

Serving as Pallbearers will be his grandsons Billy Jordan, Jimmy Ragsdale Jr., Brian Knox, Sheridan Peschel, John David Knox, Jr., Corey Knox, Ronnie Prater and Jeremy Knox. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lee Haughton, Robert Johnson and members of the VFW and American Legion.

My grandpa...how I wish we could talk again. I would sit and ask you to tell me stories. Or we could sit in the corner and talk about how crazy our family around us was. That's what I remember most.
