Gladys Alline Strong

Gladys Alline Strong passed away at rest in her home on Saturday, July 9, 2011, at 11:30 p.m.

She was born June 26, 1912 in Upshur County, Texas to George Washington Hill and Luna Mae Arnold. She married Guy C. Strong at age 16 and soon moved to Orange, Texas where she was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all for over 70 years. She was always cheerful, positive, and ready to help anyone in need. She was a member of Silver Oaks Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Guy C. Strong; son, Billy G. Strong; daughter, Mable G. Mann; sisters, Inez Freeman and Adelle Magouirk; and granddaughter, Brenda Gayle Strong.

She is survived by her son, Sammy L. Strong and wife Loretta; and daughter-in-law, Fran Strong of Orange. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins that will greatly miss her.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Donnie Mann, Gary Mann, Ricky Strong, Randy Strong, Billy Wayne Strong, and Brandon Andrews.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, July 11, 2011 at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Services will be performed at Silver Oaks Baptist Church on Hwy 1442 at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2011. Officiating will be Reverend Ed Rawls and Reverend Mike Eaves. A graveside service will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Bridge City.

Memorial contributions may be made to Silver Oaks Baptist Church, 16460 FM 1442, Orange, TX 77632.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Strong family as they adjust to life here without their dear grandmother. Mommie was the best grandmother in the world! I loved the way she planted gardens, grew flowers, cooked vegetables, and cared for her family. well I spent up to the last 4 yrs next door to Grandma ..She had huge part in my raising.She was awesome ,strong woman that lived 99yrs and strong til her last breaths.
