Glenn’s journey with electrical work began early, at the age of 15, sparking a lifelong passion and career. He proudly served his country in the Navy, enlisting during World War II. Upon his return, Glenn embarked on a distinguished career, first with MacIntosh Marine Electrical, where he traveled the country and earned numerous commendations for his exceptional work. He then brought his expertise to George Kinard Electrical Machinery and Repair Company. Following its acquisition, Glenn, alongside four fellow electricians, formed Smith Belting and Electrical Supply, from which he officially retired at 69. His commitment to his craft, however, never truly ended, as he continued to do freelance work well into his 90s.
Known as a true tinkerer and everyone's go-to handyman, Glenn possessed an uncanny ability to fix anything. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to those around him, whether in Beaumont or in his cherished community at Lake Conroe. Meticulous in all he did, he even handled all of his own mechanical work and proudly passed many of his valuable skills on to his son, a legacy of wisdom.
Glenn lived a life rich in simple pleasures and deep connections. The Bolivar Peninsula held a special place in his heart, serving as his cherished weekend refuge. There, alongside his brother Edwin and dear friend Scott Collins, they built three beach houses in a row, creating lasting memories by the sea. Glenn was a man of diverse interests, an avid CB Radio enthusiast, and even pursued private pilot studies before his children were born. Glenn was a proud Mason, a legacy and calling passed down to him by his father, Joseph Worley Parsley. Having been initiated into the South Park Masonic Lodge #1320, he rose through the Chairs to become the Worshipful Master for many terms. His faith was a cornerstone of his life; he was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Beaumont and held the distinction of being the last person baptized in their old church in on the corner of Corley and Orange before its relocation to Dowlen. In his later years, Glenn found immense joy in his morning breakfast meetings with friends at Dawn Donuts and his evening coffee gatherings at Rao's Cafe on Calder, moments of camaraderie that he treasured deeply.
Glenn was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Mary Lou Parsley; his parents, J.W. and Ruby Parsley; and his siblings, Florence Weeks, Edwin Parsley, and Margie Lawson.
His legacy of hard work, kindness, and devotion lives on through his cherished family. He is survived by his children, Jerry Parsley and his wife Judy, and Susan Hoyt and her husband Charles. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Amy Patton and her husband Jeremy, Aaron Parsley and his wife Abby, Michelle Simmons and her husband John, Christopher Hoyt and his wife Tawnya, William Hoyt, and Jacob Hoyt. Glenn was a proud great-grandfather to Tyler Grace and Brady Patton, Josiah Samuel Simmons, Eliza Rose Simmons, Shiloh Michelle Simmons, and Charlotte Catherine Hoyt.
Glenn’s unwavering dedication to his family, his craft, and his community will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
