Funeral services for Grace Ballard DeMary, 94, of Houston will be held Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Claybar Kelley-Watkins Chapel. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday evening from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Grace Ballard DeMary was born June 9, 1920 in Jasper, Texas to Wilburn Walter and Hallie Meredith (Sheffield) Ballard and passed away at her daughter’s home in Houston. She was a longtime resident of Beaumont, a member of Lamar Baptist Church and a former 50 year member of Highland Avenue Baptist Church. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Laurie Whitney DeMary in 1988 and her son, Robert Lynn DeMary in 2001.

She is survived by her son, Thomas DeMary of Austin; daughter, Irene DeMary Potter and husband, James of Houston; 3 grandchildren, Mark, Rachel and Jamie Potter, daughter-in-law, Alison Potter and 1 great-grandchild, Olivia.

Friends who wish may direct memorial contributions to the care and maintenance of the Prater Family Cemetery (Established by Grace’s great-grandfather). Donations can be directed to Irene or Thomas for the establishment a fund to care for the cemetery in Grace’s honor.
