He felt his call to ministry at the age of 9 and began his ministry at the age of 15. He was an evangelist for several years before becoming a pastor. He pastored in Mississippi, Texas, Illinois, Florida and Indiana. Dear to his heart were young men whom he mentored in ministry. He had a heart for missions and traveled as a conference speaker nation-wide and world-wide, taking him to several continents - including Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. He was proud to have been associated with and serve several ministerial associations and organizations throughout his lifetime. He was known for his humorous and simple style of speaking and he always believed everyone deserved a second chance. His message of Grace will live on in the many lives that were changed because of his ministry.

He loved his wife, children and grandchildren very much and leaves a legacy to them of a life of laughter and wonderful stories to remember and tell for generations to come.

When I first met David, I never dreamed he would eventually become my son-in-law; one of the best preachers I have ever met. I will never forget the first sermon I ever heard him preach-"The Coat of Many Colors". A friend of my mine recently stated "He could take something simple and weave quite a story around it that held one spellbound". My husband, John, and I were known as "pop" and "mom" to him. He loved to play pranks on Johnny and could brighten anyone's day. He loved and adored his wife, Cheryl, and told us this every time they visited. We truly miss him, Betty Capps

When I first met David Fleetwood, I was hurting, having made up my mind, I thought, to never again darken the doors of a church and never again to be involved in ministry. He didn't criticize me or tell me how wrong I was, he just used his sneaky grace to pull me in. He put faith in me, and I will never forget it. He was there on occasions when my Mom was facing very serious health emergencies, and it didn't matter how much sleep he'd had, he never complained. He was a great man, a loved man.

Knowing David Fleetwood was a high point in our lives; to sit next to him was an honor that we will never forget. Janet and I are thankful that we saw Bro Fleetwood in January; it was a blessed time in the Lord. He is in a higher place now, praise the Lord. Bruce and Janet Tupper

David Fleetwood was my uncle. Oh, how we loved him! Growing up his visits were the highlight of our lives when he would come into town to visit. We loved being around him. He was so funny and so much fun to be around! I remember the time he came to visit and he got up in the middle of the night and turned down the air, way down. We about froze to death! His mom and I both got up in the middle of the night, so cold that we could not sleep. We sat and talked and laughed. You could not be mad at him, he was just to special!! I have moved away and we lost track of each other. I have not seen him in over 10 years but our memories still live...

In 1998, I prayed for a mentor and then I met Pastor Dave Fleetwood. He told me things I had told no one but God. I spent 12 plus years under his leadership and I will never be the same. I have spent hundreds of hours with him and traveled thousands of miles. We had discussed ministry and life. I can honestly say the decisions I now make are influenced by him. What would he say and what would he do. A few days ago I lost a good friend and the greatest mentor one could have. I will forever remember and love him. Miss Cheryl is in my prayers and will always be. His sister, Kay. once said I was one of the family because I was always with Pastor Dave. If you ever was close to him, you left a different and better person by his leadership and ministry. God bless the Fleetwood family, brothers, sisters, son, daughter, spouses, and grand children. My heart hurts and has a vacant space where he was. All the experiences, ministry, life, travels will remain vivid, important and special to me.

I feel truly honored to have meet such an amazing Godly man. I heard him speak when I was in my teens at Bethesda Temple in Detroit. I remember it well, as a teen, we sat in the back and played tic-tac-toe and wrote notes to our friends, but on this day, it was different. There was a man speaking that got my attention and kept it the whole service. He would bring such life to a message. That day, changed my life. After that time, when a convention was mentioned, I would pray his name would be on the list of great preachers coming to share the Word. Years and years later, I was so blessed to personally meet him and his beautiful wife, Cheryl and his children and even some of his grandchildren. It wasn't very long ago, he spoke life into my husband, Mark and my life. He said things that made us stand up and do what we were called to do. It was his words that again, changed my life. I will be forever grateful that God had our paths cross. My heart is breaking for his wife and family. I can only imagine how much they will miss him, I pray that the knowledge of knowing where he is overwhelms the sadness they face. Love you all very much. Pastors Mark and Di Yeargan

Pastor Dave made a huge impact on my life. He encouraged my every step as I entered into a new life in ministry. He never missed telling me how proud of me he was. He was my Pastor, my mentor, and my friend. He taught me to not be afraid to "borrow" some tidbit from another's sermon or lesson and make it my own. There is a void in my life without him. Grace Temple will not be the same without him there; but it will be a new church under new leadership that has his influence very evident. Happy Trails, my friend, 'till meet again riding the hills in heaven!

I only spent a few phone conversations and one Sunday afternoon lunch that I will never forget with pastor Fleetwood, he spoke life to my wife and I along with our ministry when we needed it the most. I will never forget his mentoring and the life he spoke to us. May his memory be honored by those whom he affected and may we carry the torch of life in this life until we meet him again!
