Irma Virginia Silvernail

Irma Virginia Silvernail, a cherished member of the Beaumont community, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on July 23, 1942, Irma dedicated an impressive fifty years of her life to the banking industry, starting with First City through all of its name changes to finally Capital One, working from teller to finally the Trust Department, where she was known for her unwavering commitment to her work, her clients and everyone that knew her. Irma said "For Fifty years I never changed work places, but the Bank kept changing its name"!

Irma's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with creativity and compassion. Her first love, The First United Methodist Choir, Interfaith Chorus, Symphony Chorus, Beaumont Civic Opera, Choir Tours, Italy, Germany, England to name a few. Irma also enjoyed needle point, crafts, especially making jewelry, sitting with dogs and cats so people could vacation and not worry about their "Fur Children".

Beyond her artistic pursuits, Irma was a consummate volunteer, selflessly supporting various causes. As a proud breast cancer survivor, she became a beacon of hope for many, demonstrating resilience and strength. She dedicated her time to volunteering with the Gift of Life, the American Cancer Society, Kairos Kitchen at FUMC, Dog-Tober Fest, Oyster Supper, Trunk-or-Treat at Charlton Pollard Elementary. One of her highlights was crafting "decorative survivor bras" for Gift of Life "Bra-Vo Applause for a Cause".

Irma was surrounded by a supportive network of family and friends throughout her life. She leaves behind her Faux Brothers, John and Bernie Hughes Wright and Faux Sisters Cheryl Charlton, Renee Kloes, Delores Black, Rosemary Ryan, Becky Nichols, and Judy Brunton along with the loving members of the First United Methodist Church Choir. Irma touched the lives of numerous loved ones with her warmth, generosity, and infectious spirit.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Arthur and Glynn Hayes Silvernail, who nurtured her kind heart and strong values. Irma's Faux "Husband" Fred Simon, who accompanied her to many cultural events.

A Memorial Service in Irma's honor will be held at a later date at First United Methodist Church, where her presence will continue to resonate through the music she loved and the friendships she cherished. Irma's legacy of love, artistry, and service will remain in the hearts of those who knew and adored her. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever inspire those she left behind.

Irma gave me my typing test when I applied for work at First City Texas 37 years ago upon our return to Beaumont (and she remembered me from when we banked at the Village Bank some years prior). I was hired and we became friends from that day forward working together with all the Bank name changes until our retirements. Irma was the best. I will miss her. Rest in peace Irma-Nail!

I just happened upon this notice of Irma’s passing. Irma was such a part of my years at FUMC and the banking industry with my dad Gerald Brady. Always the most wonderful person always smiling. Prayers to Irma and all that were part of her life🙏

She and I worked together at the bank. I would see her from time to time and we would catch up. RIP Irma. You are missed.

Irma and I were nursery crib mates at the original location of Old North End Methodist on Cable and Live Oak. We were friends in that congregation through Sunday School, MYF, and Choir - as well as friends at James Bowie and French High School. I always thought Irma was stunningly beautiful - like Snow White - with her beautiful porcelain skin and jet black hair. As adults, Irma and I moved "downtown." She sang for First Methodist and I sang for St. Mark's Episcopal but we remained friends for life. Irma always greeted me with her radiant smile. Irma was a good friend and she will be missed. My love and prayers to Irma's church and choir family who sustained her through her years and illness.

Irma was always such a special person. We worked together at First Security/First City way back when we were both young. She inspired so many people and will be missed. Love you Irma, see you again one day.
