Jack Haley Pulliam

Jack Haley Pulliam, 85, of Bridge City, died Monday, December 20, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 23, 2010, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Rev. Bobby Hoffpauir of Second Baptist Church in Bridge City. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Born in Greenville, South Carolina on July 19, 1925, Jack was the son of Julian D. and Bernice J. Pittman Pulliam. Jack served as 2nd Engineer in the Merchant Marines during WWII and worked at DuPont for 37 years as an Operations Foreman. Jack was also a member of Second Baptist Church in Bridge City.

From his earliest days to his recent years, Jack loved to travel to new destinations. No place more than the Smokey Mountains held a special place in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Terry and Steven Pulliam; and brother, Tyson Pulliam.

Jack is survived by his wife, Velma Mae Pulliam; his son, Kenneth Pulliam and Kathryn Williamson; his daughter, Debbie Pulliam Schmidt and husband, Carl of Austin and Kenneth and Debbie's mother, Lucy Pulliam; daughter-in-law, Paula Pulliam; step-sons, Steven Higgs and wife, Joyce, Larry Higgs of Hillister, Missouri, James Mullin of Ada, Minnesota; and step-daughter, Sheri Ainsworth of Alvin.

He is also survived by his sister, Marian Johns of Atlanta, Georgia; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army Southern Territory Headquarters, 1424 Northeast Expressway, Atlanta, GA 30329.

I'm sorry we can not be there for ya'll at this time of grief. I know Uncle Jack is walking with the Lord and is free of pain. Sadly we left on earth are left to grieve his loss.
