James Sparks Jr.

Funeral services for James Sparks, Jr. 66, of Beaumont will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. in the Claybar Kelley-Watkins Chapel with Mr. Tony Williams of Westgate Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Sparks was born March 23, 1941 to James William Sparks, Sr. and Vurla Carpenter Sparks and passed away March 8, 2008 at Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. A longtime resident of Beaumont, Mr. Sparks had recently lived in Fredericksburg for 5 years-the Texas Hill Country where he always wanted to live. A proud graduate of South Park High School, he graduated from Lamar University in 1962, Baylor University in 1965 and practiced Law in Beaumont for 40 years. He was a member of Westgate Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Dougharty Sparks of Beaumont; two sons, Mark Sparks of Beaumont, James Sparks III and his wife, Nancy of Fredericksburg; one niece, Dana Work and husband, Scott of Houston; and two great-nephews, David and Ethan Work of Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Diana Mills.
