James Robert "Touch" Teutsch

1931 ∼ 2025

James Robert "Touch" Teutsch

James Robert Teutsch of Beaumont went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 10, 2025 after a long illness.

Jim was born in Taylor, Arkansas on October 21, 1931 to Hazel Britt Teutsch and James Ervy Teutsch. Jim was brought up in the oil field drilling areas in Texas as his father was employed by the Magnolia Petroleum drilling department. He attended school in Springhill, Minden, and Jennings, Louisiana as well as in Freer, Calvert, Victoria and Palacios, Texas where he finished high school. While in the boy scouts in Calvert, Jim saw the visiting Texas Aggies and heard the Texas Aggie War Hymn for the very first time. He was so taken by them he became an Aggie in 1948. Jim and the other cadets were stationed at Bryan Air Force Base while returning World War II war veterans got on the main campus.

After four great years at Texas A & M Jim was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. He served at Fort Lee and he was at Fort Sam Houston during the Korean War. As he was stationed in San Antonio, he attended First Baptist Church where they fed the visiting soldiers each Sunday. There he met his future wife, Dorothy Allen. Jim and Dot married in 1955 and they moved to Springhill, LA. Jim worked for Nation Brothers Packing Company and Dot worked for International Paper Company as a Registered Nurse. While in Springhill, Jim and Dot’s daughter Lori Renae Teutsch was born. Jim stayed busy not only working but he served as a deacon at Central Baptist Church, he founded and was president of the Toast Masters Club and he was also a Rotarian.

In 1966 Jim was offered the opportunity to work as a salesman for Sanfax Chemicals Company in Beaumont, TX. His territory covered east and southeast Texas and parts of Louisiana. Jim was a top salesman for Sanfax which later became Oxford Chemicals. He was a hard worker and he spent long hours taking care of customers and improving his sales skills. His customers became friends as they saw Jim was genuinely interested in them and that he cared about them and their families.

As a fifty plus year resident of Beaumont, Jim served as a deacon at First Baptist Church and was a very active member of the Forest Park Lions Club. Jim wondered in his later years how he was able to accomplish so much. But he believed that the Lord was in control. In fact that was his favorite maxim. Jim touched many lives over the years and his passing will leave a large void in his family.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sister Betty Jo Teutsch Smith of Palacios, Texas and Charles Wesley Teutsch of Bay City, Texas.

Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Allen Teutsch; and his daughter, Lori Teutsch.

Visitation will be at 9 am on March 14, 2025 with the funeral service following at 10 am at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church Beaumont or to a charity of your choice.

Jim was a wonderful neighbor for the 26 yrs. we lived here. He would stop and visit whenever he rode his bicycle or walked the neighborhood. Both of us enjoyed talking about our cats. He had Charlie aka Buttercup, Buster and Mae and I had an ever growing family of cats. He occasionally would come over to see them. Jim would call whenever he had a question about his cats andI would help him whenever they needed extra care. Buttercup often came to visit me or spend the night. Jim sat outside in the mornings and evenings to pet his cats. In the evenings, Jim would tend to his flowerbeds. My husband, Mike, and I would watch Buttercup follow Jim around the yard. Buttercup's tail would be high in the air or wrapped around Jim's legs as Jim attended his yard which was always so very beautiful. They were quite the pair. Buttercup was so blessed to have found Jim after he was abandoned by his former family. Jim truly loved his cats and they adored Jim. Jim is so very missed in our neighborhood. I think everyone knew him and loved him. I know we did. We have enjoyed meeting Lori and helping her with the cats and things that she has needed. We are honored in the knowledge that Jim would be pleased that we made her responsibilities a little bit easier and helped his cats during these past weeks.

With much sadness I have just learned of Jim's passing. He truly lived a Christian life and is a standard for the rest of us. Without doubt Jim heard our Savior tell him "Well done thou good and faithful servant."

Jim was precious and a true gem! He always had a positive outlook and radiated the joy of the Lord. He was very close to my husband's family, and they have many good memories together. I got to know him over the past 3 years and loved going over to his house for visits. He would retell stories about his childhood and tell me about how he and Dot met each other so many years ago. He was a faithful husband and loving man, always asking how he could pray for our family. He will be greatly missed but we know he is in Heaven with is Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Dot and Lori - I counted Jim as one of my mentors. He always had time to talk with me and I will miss him saying it was good to see me. Hold tight to your memories of Jim and he will always be with you.

Lori, my heart goes out to you and your family. I certainly understand what it feels like to lose a parent. We both were daddy's girls. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I know it's hard, but your faith and trust in our heavenly father will sustain you as only he can. Your friends here in Dallas will be here for you for whatever you may need. Your father lead a great life and I know you will miss him dearly. But may it bring you some peace knowing that he is with his Lord and savior and that you will see him again. Rev 21:4, oh how we look forward to that time.
