James Woodrow Shelton

James Woodrow Shelton, 63, of Mont Belvieu, Texas and Rociada, New Mexico, died of Acute Myeloplastic Leukemia on Monday, April 27, 2009.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orange. Reverend Joseph P. Daleo, will be the celebrant.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, also at the funeral home.

Born in Lafayette, Louisiana on September 20, 1945, he was the son of Woodrow and Mary Doris Duhon Shelton.

Mr. Shelton retired from the United States Steel, Cargill, and Vallourec & Mannesmann. He attended St. Mary's school and Lamar State College of Technology. He also was a member of the American Petroleum Institute.

He was preceded in death by his father, Woodrow Shelton.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Shelton of Mont Belvieu, Texas and Rociada, New Mexico; children, Kimberley Shelton Rollins and her husband Kirby of Victoria TX, Kara Shelton Bear and her husband Christopher of Kingwood, TX; mother, Mary Doris Shelton of Orange; grandchildren, Truett Kyle Rollins, Rylan and Ava Bear; brothers, Patrick R. Shelton and his wife Nancy of Corales, New Mexico, Kevin A. Shelton and his wife Kristi of Orange; nieces, Arianna Shelton, Marielle Shelton; and nephew Mark Shelton of Baton Rouge.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Christopher Bear, Kirby Rollins, Mark Shelton, Lee Edwards, Mike Smith and Casey Duhon.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P.O. Box 4072 Pittsfield, MA 01202, or please donate blood to either M.D. Anderson or a local bank.

His humor caught me a little off guard so our relationship was rocky for about 30 days - but it did not take long to appreciate and develop an affection for him. Prior to his retirement from V&M, every trip that I made to the Houston facility was more enjoyable when I could visit with Jimmy. I enjoyed his stories and especially his cooking. He is a gem!
