JC Childers

JC Childers, 89, of Orange, Texas died May 11, 2009, at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas, Beaumont after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness.

JC was born March 26, 1920, in Corsicana, Texas to Nora and Frank Childers. He married Jessie Jane Barber on May 30, 1942. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he returned to Orange, became a journeyman electrician, and was a member of IBEW 479. He also assisted his wife running her business, Jane's Flower Shop, in Orange for many years. JC was an avid collector, and focused on acquiring and restoring classic automobiles, pedal cars and bicycles.

JC was preceded in death by his parents, Nora and Frank; brother, Jesse; and sister, Audrey. Survivors include his loving wife, Jane of Orange; daughter, Canda Kessler and her husband Michael of Beaumont; son, Terry Childers and his wife Susan of Orange; granddaughter, Courtney Childers of Beaumont; and grandson, Justin Childers, his wife, Jeanna, and JC's beloved great grandchildren, Karis and Noah of North Carolina. Also cherishing his memory are granddaughter Lisa Allan, her husband, Christopher, and JC's great grandsons, Parker, Cooper and Miles.

The family wishes to thank Kurt Lee, M.D. and his staff for their excellent care and support during JC's illness. Special thanks are also extended to all nurses and caregivers at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas Beaumont, Biotronics Kidney Center, and The Meadows in Orange.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange. Pastor Scott McIntosh of North Orange Baptist Church and Reverend Lynn Ashcraft will officiate, and Mr. Wade Daniels will serve as vocalist. Burial will follow at Parish Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Claybar Funeral Home, Orange, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, May 12, 2009.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Al Granger, James Welch, Harry Stevens, Russell Allen, Ken LeDoux Parker Allan, Chris Allan and David Claybar.
