Jeannette Vaughn

Jeannette Wright Vaughn passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 in Beaumont. Jeannette was born on June 20, 1927 in Bonham, Texas. Following graduation from Bonham High School, she earned a degree from Texas State College for Women now Texas Women's University. She worked briefly in Dallas before entering graduate school at the University of Texas at Austin. Following graduation from UT, she moved to Beaumont to accept a faculty position at Lamar University, where she taught in the College of Business for 35 years. Before her retirement from Lamar in 1989, Jeannette was active in many campus and professional organizations.

Jeannette was also very active at First United Methodist Church in Beaumont. She met her husband, Oris Vaughn, through a Sunday school class there. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June 2008. Jeannette was a wonderful wife and mother, a doting grandmother, and a loyal friend. She was much loved and will be greatly missed.

Jeannette is predeceased by her parents, Lois and J. Frank Wright, and brother, James Wright.

She is survived by her husband, Oris Vaughn; son, Steven Vaughn of Beaumont; daughter, Kathryn Vaughn Artlip and her husband Mark Artlip of Houston; grandchildren, Michael, John and Allison Artlip of Houston; brother, T.B. Wright of Austin and his wife Pat; and many other dear relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 12, 2008 at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home. Officiating will be Reverend Eldon Reed and Reverend Frank Alegria. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

For those so desiring, memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the First United Methodist Church in Beaumont or to the charity of your choice.

Jeannette was one of the very, very sweetest people we ever met. We will remember our former neighbor forever and an unforgettable trip with she and Oris to London. Heaven is blessed.
