John Edward Herman

John Edward Herman, 60, of Orange, entered his eternal rest, surrounded by his family and friends at Dubuis Hospital in Beaumont on Monday, July 7, 2008,

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, July 11, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Reverend Joseph P. Daleo, serving as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange on Thursday from 5:00-9:00 pm with a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.

John was born in Bethesda, Maryland, October 11, 1947, the son of Ray and Antoinette Mazzola Herman. The family settled in his mother's hometown of Orange, when Ray concluded his term of service in the U.S. Navy. John was the oldest of 6 children. He grew up playing sports and working at his family's Mobil service station. He graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in 1966 and attended college in Houston before beginning his 34 year career at Sabine River Works DuPont where he retired as a Site Supervisor.

John married Sherry Watkins in 1975. While residing in Pinehurst they raised two children, Amber Rae and Adam Kyle.

He loved his family and cherished times spent outdoors, boating, and golfing. John especially enjoyed dancing with his wife.

John extended himself to others at work and in the community. He took pride in introducing people and new opportunities. John served as former WO-S Booster Club president, DERA chairperson and member of the Teutonia Masonic Lodge#47 and El Mina Shriners of Galveston.

John is survived by wife of 33 years, Sherry, daughter Amber Rae and son Adam Kyle, brothers Raymond and James Herman of Orange and sister Frances Bacak of Escatawpa, MS.

John is predeceased by parents, Ray and Antoinette Herman, brothers Ronald and Richard. Serving as pallbearers will be Benny Bates, Bill Crull, Grant Gipson, Jimmie Haley, Mike Mazzola, Jr., and Mark Trahan.

The family wishes to offer a special thanks to the nurses and doctors at Dubuis Hospital and Hermann Memorial-Baptist ICU for the exceptional care given to John. The family also wishes to acknowledge the care and support given to John by his extended family, DuPont co-workers, neighbors, Masonic and Shriners Families.

We appreciate your loving prayers throughout this difficult year.
