John Howard Brooks, Sr.

John Howard Brooks, Sr., 90, of Orange died Wednesday, January 28, 2009.

Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 31, 2009, at Myrtle Springs Cemetery in Elkhart, TX.

Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

John was born March 16, 1918, in Elkhart to John Hetty and Mary Emma Yelderman Brooks.

John was a member of Winfree Baptist Church, Boilermakers Local 587, the Democratic National Committee, Mid-County Singles Club and the Pompano Club. He enjoyed dancing, gardening and farming.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Brooks, wife, Gerry Brooks, grandson, Buddy Stephens and sister, Lois Hutton.

He is survived by his children, Victora Ruthann Hudnall, Rosemary Hodgkinson and husband Charles, Wanda Jackson and husband Ulen, Martha Rothkamm and husband Rusty, Jennifer Garrett and husband Joe and John Howard "Buzz" Brooks, Jr. and wife Karen; grandchildren, Teresa Allen, Renee Wasinger, Clay Hudnall, Shon Hodgkinson, Jenny Louviere, Spencer Jackson and H. K. Rothkamm, "Stormy" Rothkamm, Misty Croley, Rob Brooks, Lauren Aslaksen and Johanna Aker; 15 great grandchildren and sister, Rene Self.

Memorial contributions may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, an organization that John frequently contributed to.

I am sorry about the loss of your loved one. Words cannot describe feelings in a time like this.
