Dr Watt was one of my first professors teaching my first semester in Electrical Engineering (1965), along with Mr Crum, Dr Carlin, Dr Bean under Dean Cherry. If not for Dr Watt and the others mentioned, I would not hace been successful as I am. Dr Watt continued to be part of the EE Advisory Boaed meeting, which I have continued to be part of as today. I will dearly miss him, especially when he rode his for the many years. Bless him.

I came to Lamar University in Sep. 1986 to pursue my master’s degree in electrical engineering. Dr. Watt was the Professor of my Digital Circuit class and the advisor of my graduate Thesis. As a foreign student, Dr. Watt taught me the right way for daily English communication and how to write the Thesis with correct wording and grammar. Dr. Watt also spent his spare time to share with me the American and Texas history and help me to understand the American culture better. Dr. Watt made it easy for us to communicate with him and provided valuable advice to us. From time to time when I contacted my classmate from Lamar, he would ask me about Dr. Watt. 36 years after graduated from Lamar, many students still remember Dr. Watt and thanks for his advice throughout the years. On the Thanksgiving holiday of 2004, I brought my family back to Beaumont to show my sons the school I attended and the places I lived while in Lamar. It was the first time I went back to school after graduated in May 1988. I visited Dr. Watt during that trip and introduced my 2 sons to him. We re-established the communication after that trip. Dr. Watt and I used to exchange holiday greeting card and letter to share what was happening throughout the year and shared the opinions on things happened around the year. I used to call Dr. Watt to say hi and shared few things around me, my job, and my family. Dr. Watt always asked how my wife and kids was doing. This past holiday, I received only the greeting card but not letter, which made me concerned about Dr. Watt’s health. I was planning to call Dr. Watt around the Chines New Year but don’t have chance anymore. Dr. Watt, you will be remembered, and we all miss you and appreciate your endless support. Your Student David Dunn

Dr. Watt was one of the nicest person I knew. We use to have lunch together almost every week the past few years. He was such positive role model and I really thank him for taking the time to just talk with me at lunch. I will really miss those days. Worrick Jackson

I came to know Dr. Watt when I became chair of the EE department at Lamar University in 2001. He had retired from the department five years before, but remained a loyal friend and supporter of our programs. Joe served on our Advisory Board and was always a source of guidance and wisdom. When I got into a bind finding a temporary instructor for a course, he was always ready to help. You simply could not find a more sensitive, caring person who was totally selfless in promoting education, and not just engineering. He will be missed. Harley Myler

Joe was one of the first people I met when I began as the Literacy Coordinator at the Literacy Depot in 2000. He was committed to teaching English as A Second Language students and was faithful to do it twice a week for many years. A mutual respect and concern existed between him and his students and many of them have never forgotten the time he spent with them and the kindnesses he showed. He was a super encourager to me both professionally and personally as I navigated my job and raised my family at the same time. I always greatly valued his counsel and his friendship. I know that his faith in Christ was strong and never waivered and I hope this brings you all much comfort. Barbara Beard
