Joyce Ann Cogar, 86, of Buna, Texas, passed away on September 19, 2019, in Beaumont.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 23, 2019, at Claybar Kelly Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont. Officiating will be Father Ernie Carpio of St. Anne Catholic Church in Beaumont.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at Claybar Kelly Watkins Funeral Home.
Born in Port Arthur, Texas, on September 23, 1932, she was the daughter of Edward McDowell and Evelia (LaCombe) McDowell Walthers. Joyce was a sales associate for Singer and retired after 45 years. She loved to sew and would offer free lessons when she would sell a machine and she also knew how to repair them. Joyce was very active in the community of Buna where she taught swimming lessons to many children and everyone there knew her for her cinnamon rolls. Every Easter Joyce and her beloved late husband would have family barbeques. Joyce always held birthday parties in the yard and people thought she had parties every weekend. She loved helping everyone and even helped raise her grandchildren. Joyce was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Evelia McDowell; her beloved husband Ralph E. Cogar; son, Marc Samuel Cogar; daughter, Joyce Elaina Cogar; great grandsons, Landon Wiley, and Joseph Lutz; brothers, Murphy McDowell, Michael McDowell; sister, Evelia (Boots) Graffagnino.
She is survived by her children, Neena Leah Weible of Beaumont, Ralph “Bud” Dorsey Cogar of Orange, and Theresa Richards and Doug Vincent of Burkeville; 12 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren; sisters, Judy Auth and John of Lafayette, Louisiana, Patsy Bass and Irwin of Poukeepsie, New York, and many nieces, nephews, and everyone who called her Granny.
Cremation is under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home. A Catholic burial of the ashes is to be announced at a later date.
