Juanita Overton Conley

Juanita Overton Conley, 94, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 after an extended illness. Juanita "Winnie, Sister" was a resident of Calder Woods Retirement Community at the time of her passing. She was born Dec. 29, 1917 in Frankston, TX to Walter and Mary Lou Overton. Juanita was the eldest of three daughters.

In her youth, she was employed by Evans Food Store where she met her future husband, Eugene Gene Conley. They were married in 1947 in Beaumont where they remained. They spent many happy hours playing cards and gardening together.

Although legally blind for many years, Juanita never lost her sense of humor. She was an avid card player, doting Mother, excellent cook and homemaker. Christmas time with Juanita was a wonderful feast. She enjoyed her daily cup of coffee while talking politics with long-time friends who have preceded her in death.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Krissandra Walsh and husband, Larry of Mountain City, TX; sisters, Hazel Lee of Beaumont and Mary Virginia Tarrant of Frankston; step son, Kenneth Conley and wife, Patricia Toledo Bend; stepdaughter, Reba Gayle Conley of Orange; stepdaughter-in-law, Carolyn Conley of Port Neches; step grandchildren, Kenneth Conley Jr., Lynne Conley Wisby, Melanie Beber, Kristin Louviere, Tommy Conley, Michael Conley, Laura Walsh Avelar and their families; nieces, Kay Nicholas, Dianna Coffey, Cheri Abbott and Debbie Tarrant and numerous step great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Conley; stepson, Derrill Conley and step grandson, Steven Conley.

Special thanks to her loving care givers, Alfreda Kemp and Linda Batiste. Also much appreciation to the nurses and staff of Calder Woods for Juanita's care over the last ten years and to Buckner's Hospice nurses, Wendy and Sherry, for providing her peace and comfort over the last 6 months. All of you were so wonderful to Mother.

In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be directed to your charity of choice.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 11:00 a.m. in the Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine St.

Condolences
