Kathy Kim Barbosa-Stokes, 49, of China, Texas, passed away on April 5, 2022, in her home.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 11, 2022, at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home. Officiating will be Brother Bynog. Burial will follow at Haven of Rest.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 10, 2022, at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont.

Kathy was born in Okinawa, Japan, on March 24, 1973, she was the daughter of Patrick and Karen Makaisu. She was respected and loved by all of her peers and subordinates. Kathy was a dedicated member of the American Legion. She had the biggest heart with an even bigger personality. Kathy was the kindest person but that never stopped her from being straight forward with you. She had an uncanny ability to judge someone’s personality and character. Kathy was an amazing mother and grandmother, and loved her family like no other. She will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her father, Patrick Makaisu; brothers, Larry Makaisu and Patrick Makaisu; and stepfather Michael.

She is survived by her loving husband, Michael Stokes; mother, Karen Mukaisu; children, Jacqueline Barbosa and Nick, and Jenni Barbosa-DeKam and Kyle; stepson, Jacob Stokes; grandchildren, Jesse, Emma Grace, Lyla, Jade; sister, Sherry Gibbons and Patrick; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Kathy , you were a wonderful friend to anyone who came across your path! One absolute amazing auntie. You will be dearly missed. Prayers go out to the entire family. Whenever you are missed you will only be as far as the hearts in the ones who loved you.

Was at a friend's house a long time ago. There was a tap at the window and then this girl climbs through it and asks where Lori is. That was how I met Kathy. Not long after, she tapped on my heart and climbed in there as well. She was a friend like no other. We've been separated by distance and time, but she'll always remain in my heart, as she will remain in the hearts of all who know her.
