Jean Andrews and Jim Phelan We knew Kay for almost 30 years when she was a sign Language interpreter at Lamar University. She was a staunch ally and advocate for Deaf people in Beaumont. She also knew about the history of many deaf citizens in Beaumont in the 1960’s who were involved in Beaumont Deaf Association and Beaumont School for the deaf. A lovely lady who will be missed.

Mawmaw Kay..the sweetest person in the whole world. She was so positive and full of joy. I loved going over to help her and Pawpaw with whatever was needed and be able to get lost in conversation for hours. I'm really going to miss her...but I'm glad she's pain free and in a better place now.

We have know Kay for over 52 years. We first met at the Beaumont school for the deaf where she was the school secretary. We also took several sign language classes from. Kay was a very kind person. She was easy to talk to and very helpful in accepting our daughter, Ethel. Deafness. If it was not for her the deaf would not have had the religious education they got from her interpreting the church services at First Baptist in Beaumont. She will be missed by all that knew her. The Alexander family.
