Dear Mary Jane, I am deeply saddened by this bad news. Professor K W Johnson has served the University of Toronto with enthusiasm and generosity for many years contributing to the education of many vascular surgeons, to research and to administration. I remember him with great affection for the human depth and for the professional skills that he has always shown, as well as being deeply grateful to him for his teachings and for the esteem he has honored me with. A human life was broken, and I know how close you were to this giant of Vascular Surgery. There are not enough words to express my sadness as I share the pain of your loss. Death in its inescapable naturalness is something unbearable when it touches our loved ones, especially when it tears a husband away from the family. Every word seems superfluous, I simply offer to you my deepest condolences. Claudio Cinà
