Larry Dewayne Martel I

Funeral services for Larry Dewayne Martel I, 55, of Sour Lake, will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 4, 2010, at First Baptist Church, Sour Lake with interment to follow at Rosedale Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home. Mr. Martel was born May 3, 1955 in Beaumont, TX to Raymond and Betty Martel and passed away on May 30, 2010 in Livingston, TX. Larry was a past member of Local Union Pipefitters 195 from 1974 through 1984. He is currently a member of United Steelworkers Union 13-1 of Pasadena, TX and was a welder at Rohm and Haas/Dow Chemical. He served as past master at Sour Lake Masonic Lodge 1002.

He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents, Grady Martel, Sr. and wife, Agatha and Elbert DuBose, Sr. and wife, Ardelia. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gay Beth Martel; his mother; son, Larry Dewayne Martel II; grandchildren, Corbin James Martel and Larry "Trace" Dewayne Martel III; sisters, Carolyn Abney, Cathy Martel, Patty Allison, and Mona West; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry always had such a big heart. No matter the distance or how long between phone calls, I always knew I could count on Larry to never change.
