Leona Alta Greer Lyons

Leona Alta Greer Lyons, 92, of Orange, died Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at Christus St. Mary's Hospital in Port Arthur.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 8, 2010, at First United Pentecostal Church in Orange with Reverend Gary Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery in West Orange.

Visitation will be from 5:00-9:00 p.m., Thursday at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Hearne, Texas on July 1, 1918, Leona was the daughter of Anel Lucille Ellender and Hatton Lee Greer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oscar C. Lyons, Sr.; three brothers; and three sisters.

Leona is survived by her daughter, Rosa Crownover of Orange; and son, Oscar C. "Buddy" Lyons, Jr. and his wife, Barbara of Bridge City.

She is also survived by her five grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Greer of Katy and Daniel Greer of Ketchikan, Alaska; three sisters, Mildred Butuad of New Iberia, Louisiana, Minnie Weaver of Port Arthur and Irene Weaver of Groves.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Andrew Crownover, David Crownover, Terry Lyons, David Candleria, Jeff Van Auken, and Kendall Lyons. Honorary Pallbearer will be Les Wilson.

Many fond memories of Granny Lyons. It was amazing how Granny and Pops opened their home to the Lunsfords all eight of us in the early 1960's. Since then she staked claim as" my Texas Granny". To our extented family, The Strickland's do and will always cherish our relationship with the Greer family.
