My husband was in the nursing facility with Mr. Russell. I spoke to him on a daily basis. He always admired the way I dressed and told me every day how good I looked, no matter how bad I thought I looked. He was always pleasant to talk to. My condolence to all of the family. I will miss the daily compliments. Lorene Malbrough 910 Elgie Street Beaumont, Texas 77705

I was just a kid when Uncle Tom showed up in the driveway one Saturday and popped open his trunk and called me over. He had been hitting the garage sales as usual and happened on a bunch of books he though I might be interested in. Being more of a non-reader I wasn't much interested but thanked him and lugged the heavy box of books to my room and sat them in the corner. A few days later I was bored and looked through the box. It was full of fiction adventure that caught my interest so I started reading one. I finished it in a few days and started on another. Soon I was staying up at night, lamp on, reading in bed until late hours. I ended up reading every one and then read them all again......and again....and again. Realizing the value, comprehension, and enjoyment that reading brought to my interest and education I have taken the example and am passing the love on to my son. Most nights he now reads and I'm always looking to get him new books to keep him interested. What my son doesn't realize is that he and I both owe this lifelong gift to Uncle Tom. I will always remember. Love and prayers for the family. Jimmy Gilliam
