Lewanda June Thompson

Lewanda June Thompson, 84, of Vidor, died July 4, 2016. She was born on July 16, 1931 in Port Arthur, Texas, to Elah Hughes Daw and Bronson Cooper Daw.

June grew up in Nederland, graduated from Nederland High School, and Abilene Christian College. She married the love of her life Jack Thompson on June 22, 1951, and they were married for sixty-one years. She taught typing and shorthand at Vidor High School for 20 years. As a minister’s wife, she was a godly example and a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

The family would like to thank Altus Hospice and Home Instead for the wonderful care given to June. We would also like to say a special thanks to our caregivers Sharon Rye, Janie Wolfsberger, Gina King, and Julie Gravette for their loving care of our sweet Momma.

A gathering of family and friends will be on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home, 11th Street in Beaumont. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 also at Claybar with her interment to follow at Oak Bluff Cemetery in Port Neches. I am so sad to hear of June's passing. It is a bittersweet moment. It is so hard to say goodbye to our loved ones. Yet knowing that June is resting in her Savior's arms now is a blessing for her and where we all long to go at the end of our life on earth. June was always such a sweet and soft-spoken person with a gentle and godly spirit. She lived a beautiful life for all of her 84 years. Her example lives on in her wonderful children. My prayer is for God to comfort each of you as you say goodbye to her. Goodbye for now, but you shall meet her again in our beautiful heavenly home. Sending all my love to each of you. Jan Dixon
