Lila "Leigh" Heath, a beloved nurse, devoted mother, and cherished Nanny, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, in Beaumont, Texas. Born on April 22, 1944, in Charleston, South Carolina, Lila carried the pride of her Southern roots throughout her life.
Lila dedicated over 60 years of her life to nursing, a career she absolutely loved and in which she took immense pride. She was deeply proud of being born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. Lila was widely known as a "Christmas enthusiast," whose legendary holiday decorations brought joy to all who saw them. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life; she was very involved in her church, Westminster Presbyterian, where she served as an elder and founded the children's center. A true volunteer at heart, she generously gave her time wherever she could, including serving on the PTA when her children were young. Affectionately known as "Nanny" by all her grandchildren, Nanny LOVED her grands dearly. Throughout her distinguished career, she also served as Director of Nurses at numerous nursing homes in the area.
Lila's loving memory will be cherished by her children, Kim Lunt (Robert), Kevin Heath (Tracy), Kerry Heath, and her Godchild Kara Sanchez (Tony). She leaves behind a legacy of love in her grandchildren, Jessica Singletary (Riley), Jonathan Lunt (Katie Chasteen), Grace Garcia (Joshua), Jillian Lunt (Austen Beverly), Tyler Heath, Kaci Heath (Chris Rubio), Jenna Smith (Alex), and Kristine Thompson. Her great-grandchildren, Lila Smith, Darcy Singletary, Hunter, Tessa Mae, and Logan Rubio, will also miss their Nanny. She is also survived by her nephews, Bill Midgely, Andy Midgely, and George Midgely. Lila will be deeply missed by her close friends, Frank and Ebb Morris, Phillip and Debbie Mayeaux, Londie Jones, Brenda Callier, Deanna and Dwight Courts, and Bob and Sue Kidder, along with numerous other loving family members and friends.
Lila was preceded in death by her beloved parents, William and Elizabeth Zeigler; her devoted husband, Donald Heath; her sister, Betty Jean Anderson; and her cousin, Mary Ellen MacGregor.
There will be a Visitation Thursday, July 9, 2026 at 2:00pm followed by a Funeral service in her honor at 3:00pm, Both will be held at LaBrie Claybar Funeral Home in Beaumont.
