Lillian Denton

Lillian Helen Delano Denton, 89, of Sour Lake passed away Monday, February 7, 2011.

The funeral service will be on Thursday, February 10 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Sour Lake. Pastor Ken Ellzey will officiate the service and Dr. Duane Kelley will assist. Interment will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Denton was born December 15, 1921 in Wharton County to Martin and Josephine Delano. She, along with her younger sister, Marveline Sis and younger brother, Charles Buck, helped their father on their dairy and rice farm.

In 1939, she married Virl Denton, settled down and began a family, starting with Jimmy, Kenneth, Judy, Sharon and ending with Marveline. The family lived in various towns ending in Sour Lake.

Lillian has served in several capacities at First Baptist Church in Sour Lake. She is also retired from the Hardin-Jefferson School District.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virl; daughter, Judy and brother, Charles Buck Delano.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Jimmy Denton and wife, Earlene, of Sour Lake, Kenneth Denton and wife, Pamela, of Nome; daughters, Sharon Broussard and husband, Joe, of Devers, Marveline Wimberly and husband, Cruse, of Sour Lake; sister, Marveline Sis Pira and husband, Duane, of Cold Spring; sister-in-law, Maxine Delano of Corpus Christi; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
